My Favorite (Free!) Fitness Apps

Smartphones do it all. From mobile banking to shopping, it makes sense that there are now tons of apps available to help you reach your fitness goals and improve your physique. Here are a few of my favorites

1. Nike Training Club

Only got 30 minutes to work out? This app will kick your you-know-what in 30 seconds flat. The app offers four types of workouts: Get Lean, Get Toned, Get Strong, and Get Focused, and these are available in both beginner mode, intermediate mode, and advanced mode. Word to the wise, these are tough workouts (the highest I do is intermediate, and even those workouts can leave me sore for days) so don’t feel discouraged if these workouts can be difficult to get through. Workouts are available in both 30 minute and 45 minute sessions. It’s available free on the Google App Store and Apple’s App Store.

2. PumpUp

PumpUp is by far my favorite strength training app. It builds a workout for you based on the equipment you have available and the areas of your body you’d like to work. It offers interactive pictures and instructions for each workout move, and you can plan your workouts in advance. I use the free version of PumpUp, but there is a paid version available with vocal coaching (the free version is quiet). Currently PumpUp is only available on the Apple App Store, but it’s supposed to be coming soon for Android.

For paid apps I also enjoy Nike Plus ($2.99 available for both Apple and Android) which I use to track and pace my runs and CruiseControl ($4.99, only for Apple) which finds songs in your music library to match the pace you’re currently running, or want to run.

There’s No Place Like Home & Favorite Links this Week

After 12 hours of driving, 3 Subway stops, and far too many cups of coffee to count, I have finally moved! I will be staying with my parents (doing the mid 20something rite of passage!) will looking for an apartment in downtown ATL. I could not be more thrilled to be back home, but my blogging has definitely taken a hit while being gone. Here’s a few of the links, recipes, and looks I’ve been digging this week.

1, Chobani Greek Protein Cheesecake

This is one of my absolute favorite healthy and affordable desserts to make.  I have made this many times, and I do sometimes make this without nutmeg, as it can be a bit  overpowering.

For filling:
6oz 0% Plain Chobani Greek Yogurt
1/2 Tbsp Jell-O sugar-free instant pudding mix – cheesecake

For crust:
1/2 cup fiber bran cereal
4 Tbsp water
1 Tbsp unsalted almond butter
1/4 tsp stevia
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/8 tsp nutmeg

Add the cheesecake flavored pudding mix into the yogurt and stir until well combined. Set yogurt mixture aside. In a food processor or blender, grind the bran to a fine texture. In a small mixing bowl, add the ground bran with all dry ingredients, (stevia, cinnamon, and nutmeg) and mix evenly. Then add the almond butter and water and stir until it becomes moist and sticky. If the batter is still crumbly, add additional water in 1 tsp increments until desired consistency is achieved. Pour the crust mixture into a small 4 inch circular pan. Pack the crust along the bottom and sides of the dish to create a pie shape. Pour the filling on top of the crust and smooth evenly along the top. Refrigerate for at least 20 minutes and enjoy cold.

2. Blog: Colorful Corporate

This is a great blog for outfit inspiration for both work and home. Jeannie shares her outfits with pieces from J Crew, Lilly Pulitzer, etc. and puts together pieces in unique ways. A great blog to follow when you need outfit pairing motivation and inspiration.

3. Detoxinista’s Avocado Pesto Sauce Recipe

Have I mentioned how much I adore this blog and Megan’s yummy and healthy recipes? This is a fantastic healthy pasta sauce recipe that is light and refreshing. Click here to go directly to the recipe.

4. Greatist Article: 71 Resources to Run Better Today

Greatist is a fantastic resource for health and fitness recipes that cater to young adults. Some of the links include training plans, the best theme races, and so much more.

What recipes are you cooking this week? Did you celebrate National Running Day?

These Are A Few Of My Favorite Things..

Here’s the top 5 products, recipes, and things I’ve been loving this week:

1. Pink Noise Insulating Running Headphones by MEElectronics $16.99

I bought this on a whim off of Amazon after my last pair of running headphones broke. These look a little intimidating at first but will stay in your ear for your entire workout! They have just the right amount of noise cancellation and you can’t beat the price of these.

2. Skinny Funfetti Milkshake Recipe from Sally’s Baking Addiction

This is one of my absolute favorite blogs for amazing baking ideas. Sally posts incredible recipes and has both normal recipes and skinny-fied ones. Her photographs are INCREDIBLE (seriously look at the above photo!). Here’s her recipe for this simple, healthy, and delicious Skinny Funfetti Milkshake that I made yesterday:

Makes 2 cups or 1 large serving.

  • 2 ripe large bananas, peeled, cut into chunks, & frozen
  • 1/4 cup vanilla almond milk (or regular milk)
  • 1/4 cup vanilla Greek yogurt (or regular yogurt)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • sprinkles*

  1. Blend the frozen banana chunks and milk together until thick, creamy, and smooth – about 4 minutes. Scrape down the sides of the blender as needed.
  2. Add the yogurt and vanilla extract and blend for 1 minute. Pour into glass and stir in as many sprinkles as you’d like.

I would highly recommend subscribing to her posts via email, as she posts amazing recipes quite often!

3. Coral Running Hat- 2XU $20

Oh, running hats. I started wearing them in the last few months to help keep the sun off my face and have been converted into a full-on running hat fiend. They keep my hair out off my face, make me feel like a covert agent, and greatly reduce my chance of skin cancer. This is one of my fav’s as it has 50+ UV ray protection, is machine washable, and dries super quickly.

4. Cauliflower Pizza Recipe from Detoxinista

This is one of the first blogs I started following when I decided to eat healthier, and it’s one of the best ones out there for simple healthy recipes with just a few ingredients.

This pizza recipe will change your life, and the way you think about pizza. While the recipe does require a food processor, it’s well worth it as I’ve tried to rice the cauliflower using a blender and the results are not pretty. I make this recipe or  one with zucchini substituted for the cauliflower once a week and it’s a fun and healthy way to enjoy pizza.

Here’s the recipe and check out Dextoinista for more healthy and simple recipes.

5. J Crew Factory Classic Gingham Button-Down Shirt in Fresh Kiwi $34.50

J Crew Factory has a great sale going right now, with as much as 50% off certain items. I’ve been lusting over gingham shirts all spring and finally pulled the trigger this weekend. This will be perfect for both work and home, and you can’t beat the fresh pop of pink color.
